36 years ago, Catonsville Eye Group was created in order to provide eye care with a unique approach to the Baltimore area. Our mission was to create a practice where the patient would come first and always have a positive experience. We’ve located ourselves in downtown Catonsville, and we believe that life is truly great in 21228!

Over the years, we’ve grown into one of the largest eye care providers of optometry in the Baltimore area. We employ a staff of twelve professionals, including our Doctors of Optometry, opticians, technical and ancillary staff. We utilize the latest diagnostic instruments available to provide our doctors with the necessary tools needed to evaluate the overall health of your eyes in the most efficient and effective manner.

As part of a comprehensive eye examination for adults, we check for eye conditions such as glaucoma, macular degeneration, cataracts, and dry eye disease. The doctors also look for systemic diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, and high cholesterol. When examining our younger patients, we evaluate all aspects of visual function including evaluation for strabismus and amblyopia (lazy eye).

We specialize in hard to fit contact lens wearers such as bifocals and toric fits. We co-manage with ophthalmology for our patients needing LASIK or cataract surgery. Our opticians are well versed and are up-to-date in the latest spectacle lens and frame technology to enhance your appearance. We accept most insurance plans such as VSP, Medicare, BCBS, DAVIS VISION, and much more.

MEET OUR DOCTORS

Dr. Richard C. Edlow

Dr. Edlow has lived in Baltimore all of his life and now resides with his wife of 40 years. He’s one of the founding partners at Catonsville Eye Group and has been in practice since 1980. Graduating from the University of Maryland with a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics in 1976, he went on to the Pennsylvania College of Optometry where he earned a degree in Visual Sciences in 1977 and Doctor of Optometry in 1980.

He enjoys bike riding, flying and spending time with his two daughters and four grandsons.

Dr. David J. Feldmann

Born and raised in Baltimore, Dr. David J. Feldmann has been a partner at Catonsville Eye Group since 1990. He is a 1970 graduate of Baltimore Polytechnical Institute and received his undergraduate degree at the University of Maryland in Psychology. He attended Pennsylvania College of Optometry earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Visual Science in 1974 and Doctor of Optometry in 1978.

He prides himself on taking a caring approach in all patient care as well as maintaining a high standard of excellence. An avid sports fan, David also enjoys jogging and travel.

Dr. Jonathan C. Bondroff

Baltimore bred; Dr. Bondroff has been with Catonsville Eye Group since 2009 and a partner since 2015. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Maryland in Physiology and Neurobiology. He attended Pennsylvania College of Optometry where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Visual Science and Doctor of Optometry in 2009.

He resides in Columbia with his wife and enjoys spending time with his family and friends.

MEDICAL SERVICES

Catonsville Eye Group offers medical services for a long list of eye conditions. We care for patients needing glaucoma evaluations, cataracts evaluations, Diabetic eye exams, contact lens related issues, dry irritated eyes, red eyes, pink eye painful eyes and people experiencing flashing light and/or floating spots.

Glaucoma

A silent disease. Glaucoma is a progressive optic nerve disease that causes degenerative peripheral vision loss with eventual central vision loss. It often appears with no symptoms, though in some cases can present eye pain. Risk factors include systemic diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, and autoimmune diseases.

Part of every comprehensive eye exam is a test for glaucoma. Higher risk patients will receive additional diagnostic testing.

Macular Degeneration

Macular degeneration is a degenerative disease of the central vision causes by a backup of metabolites and waste into the macula area that controls the central vision. Smoking, familial history, and systemic diseases will put you at greater risk of developing this disease. Symptoms include decreased vision and abnormal changes such as straight lines appearing crooked.

If you’re experiencing symptoms of macular degeneration, our doctor will evaluate the macula for any changes and will help you determine the appropriate course of action.

Cataracts

Cataracts are a clouding of the natural lens in the eye. Symptoms include blurred vision, glare, halos and difficulty driving at night. If you have diabetes, take certain medications or have been exposed to extensive UV rays, you could be at greater risk of developing cataracts.

Cataract surgery is one of the most successful and commonly performed procedures.

Dry Eye Syndrome

This is an inflammatory ocular surface disease caused by tear deficiency, lid margin disease, or dysfunction of the glands. This disease is very common and is easily managed. Dr. Bondroff is our dry eye specialist. He has a comprehensive diagnostic approach to treating dry eye and can prescribe topical medication to keep the symptoms and signs under control. If necessary, Dr. Bondroff will proceed with other medications.

Diabetes

Commonly thought of as a disease of high sugar of the blood in the eye, diabetes affects blood vessels that can cause leaking and inflammation. Diabetic retinopathy affects the eyes, and is potentially a blinding disease caused by bleeding or a lack of blood flow.

Diabetic patients should be examined yearly for a full dilated eye exam.
